Irene's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for farm inputs, such as fertilizers rich in nutrients and certified seeds, to improve the yield on her farm, generate more revenue and lift her family out of poverty.

Irene's story

Irene is a committed, determined and honest woman with a lovely family. She is based in Kerugoya, Kenya. The rich soil of this area makes it one of the nation’s biggest maize-growing regions, giving it the nickname “the breadbasket region of Kenya”.

For the past few years, Irene has been involved in mixed farming. Her primary sources of income have been selling milk and a variety of food crops. These ventures have allowed her to earn a decent income.

Irene was born into a family where farming skills were passed from one generation to another. She did not have any alternative way of making an income, so she chose to venture into farming. Through continuous involvement in crop and animal farming, she is able to provide her family with three meals a day.

Due to various farming practices such as monoculture and continuous cropping, her farm’s soil has lost its fertility. Her crops also suffer losses from various pests and diseases.

She is requesting this loan so that she can buy certified maize seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to use on her farm. She believes that these will help her improve her farm’s yield and therefore increase her income level. Irene is confident that she will be able to repay her loan and expand her farm. This loan will surely empower this hard-working woman.
