Ruth's Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy water, juice, and soda crates.

Ruth's Group's story

Ruth's Group is comprised of five hard-working women. Ruth is 22 years old and lives in the town of Ojwina in the Lira region of Uganda. She is married and has three children with two of them currently in school. For the past two years, Ruth has been working hard to manage her beverage business which sells soft drinks, soda, juice, and water.

To help expand her business, Ruth has requested a share of 1,600,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy water, juice, and soda crates and will help Ruth to generate greater profits. Ruth will realize more profits from the expanded business, pay school fees for her children, and she will be in position to improve on her standards of living by catering for home basic needs. Ruth hopes that in the future she will be able to expand to a wholesale shop.

Ruth is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
