Phionah's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food like maize flour, green bananas, beans, sauce pans and plates.

Phionah's story

Phionah is 23 years old and lives in the town of Abaita Ababiri in the Abaita Ababiri region of Uganda. She has one child who is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Phionah has been working hard to manage her restaurant which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Phionah has requested a loan of 600,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food like maize flour, green bananas, beans, sauce pans, plates and tables. This will help Phionah generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food. Phionah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a house.

Phionah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and attend life-skills training.
