Betty's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy braids, hair oil, and weaves.

Betty's story

Betty is 20 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. She has one child, who is currently in school. For the past 2 years, Betty has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which plaits, braids, weaves, treats, and retouches hair.

To help expand her business, Betty has requested a loan of 1,200,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy braids, hair oil, and weaves and will help Betty to generate greater profits, expand her business, and meet basic needs at home, thereby improving her standards of living. Betty hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build rentals.

Betty is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
