Renovacion 2-5 Group's story

Sujeiri, 29, is a borrower who lives in Samana, Dominican Republic. She is the coordinator for her group, Renovación (Renewal), and her story is representative of those in her group and other Dominican and Haitian borrowers at Esperanza International. Sujeiri and her husband have one child and live in a simple home in Samana, a beautiful and sparsely populated peninsula in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. Life in rural areas of the Dominican Republic can be rough, with no potable running water, frequent power outages (if one has power to begin with), and inadequate access to healthcare. Despite these difficulties, Sujeiri runs a successful business running a small eatery. With this loan, Sujeiri plans to purchase more food including rice, beans, and sugar. This is Sujeiri’s sixth loan with Esperanza International, and she hopes to continue taking out loans to grow her business and improve life for her family. With her profits, Sujeiri hopes to purchase equipment so that she can also start baking cakes. She will also use her profits to purchase school supplies for her daughter, including a backpack, notebooks, and pencils. Sujeiri is currently studying as well, and her loans have provided her business with the profits that will get her through school. In the future, Sujeiri hopes to build a house of her own that she can pass along to her family. Esperanza International seeks to free children and their families through initiatives that generate income, education and health, restoring self-worth and dignity to those who have lost hope. We have over 8,500 active associates in eleven offices in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Thank you for lending to Sujeiri and the Renovación group!
