Mano Amiga 1, 2 Group's story

Juliana is the coordinator of her group Mano Amiga (Friendly Hand), and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients (many of whom recently emigrated to the Dominican Republic from Haiti) generally. Her group is located in the Samana peninsula, a lush, rugged area with a nascent tourism industry, where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple structure with her long term partner and their two children. Juliana is excited to be taking her sixth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business selling clothing and Avon beauty products by purchasing pants, shirts, skirts, creams, perfumes, and makeup in the capital and then bringing her merchandise back to her community to sell. She will use the profits in her home by constructing a bathroom, to help her children by purchasing school supplies, food, and clothing for them, and in her business by purchasing a scooter to make moving around with her merchandise easier. She thanks you all for your support.
