Katherine Elizabeth's story

Montecristi stands out for its crafts made from toquilla straw, wicker, piquigua fiber, and wood. Fine hats made from toquilla straw (known world-wide as "Panama hats") are known both within and outside of the country.

Katherine is 25 years old, married, and has two children, ages 2 and 3. Her spouse is a school teacher. They live in her mother-in-law's house.

To contribute her part to the household expenses, Katherine maintains her business selling a variety of clothing for women, men, and children. She works some four hours every day. She makes rounds through the sector. She leaves the items with her customers on credit, and collects weekly. She also sells products from Yanbal, Avon, and Belcorp (Ibel, cyzone, esika) catalogs (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and women's accessories).

With this new loan, she will purchase perfumes, creams, nail polish, shampoo, deodorants, etc. Her dream is that her family is very healthy and to own her own house.
