Las Estrellas De San Luis Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy organic fertilizer and insecticides for her tomato farm.

Las Estrellas De San Luis Group's story

One of the common goals of farmers throughout the world is to grow healthy productive plants. They face constant challenges such as inclement weather, plant diseases, insect infestation, and scarcity of water. Micaela is a 21-year-old farmer from the State of Totonicapan in Guatemala. She is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank called “Las Estrellas de San Luis”. Micaela is married and has a six-month-old son. She has a small plot of land where she grows tomatoes. Micaela is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy sacks of organic fertilizer and insecticides.

This Trust Bank consists of seven women who meet every month to support each other, submit loan payments, and participate in educational seminars in which they gain information about how to best manage their businesses, take care of their families, and empower themselves. Every other month, the women have access to basic health care services. This combination of loans, education, and health care services fall under the Friendship Bridge program called “Microcredit Plus”. Since these services are not readily available to the members, they are appreciative that they have access through Friendship Bridge.

Micaela and the other members of her Trust Bank thank the Kiva lenders for taking the time to learn about them. They are poised to make brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their community in Totonicapan.
