Access has always been important to me, whether in physical spaces or online. My father used a wheelchair for mobility. I remember how infuriating it was to arrive at a destination only to find he couldn’t enter the building, could not use a bathroom, could not be seated at a table, or could not move through a store crowded with merchandise. The barriers to his disability were created not by the fact he used a wheelchair, but by inaccessible environments. Those same buildings were excluding other people as well; people with baby strollers, those with small children, exhausted or overwhelmed shoppers, individuals who are Blind or people that used crutches or canes. Excluding potential customers is bad for business. In addition to exclusions in the physical world, people with disabilities are often excluded from an online learning environment. Many people access the internet using hardware or software that’s not compatible with Learning Management Systems (LMSs.) Doug and I built YesLMS to be a powerful, effective, intuitive and accessible Learning Management System that is a great fit for any online learner. We see ourselves as entrepreneurs out of necessity. It's been a massive learning curve but we are doing it! We have surrounded ourselves with team members and mentors with proven business experience. We are intent on setting a standard for inclusion that all of our competitors will have to follow in the future.
