A loan helped to buy yarn in various colors.

Mujeres Tejedoras Group's story

Josefina is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Mujeres Tejedoras". She has 2 years of education and is a 28-year-old single woman.

Josefina weaves elaborate “fajas” or belts on a backstrap loom. Her business is doing well so she has four employees who weave 30 colorful “fajas” every month. Josefina is now offering a new product to her clientele - shawls. Her orders are increasing, thus Josefina needs more supplies to meet the demand. She is requesting a 2nd Kiva loan to buy “lustrina” yarn in various colors at wholesale prices.

The Trust Bank was named "Mujeres Tejedoras" because most of the members are dedicated to weaving traditional textiles. The group is composed of 7 Mayan K'iché women who live in a rural area of the Quiché Department. The women are determined to maintain their mother tongue and therefore teach their children to speak it so that their culture continues as it has for centuries. In this Kiva loan cycle, the women would like to invest new capital into their textile businesses, as well as into the farms growing peaches, apples and avocados.

Since the women only have an average of 2 years of education, their monthly educational training of the "Microcredit Plus" program of business skills (budgeting, investing, saving), along with family care (nutrition, hygiene, health) are vitally important. Every other month they receive health care services.

Thank you Kiva investors for providing your loan support!
