La Esperanza De Pasac Group's story

Pascuala is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "La Esperanza de Pasac". She thinks women are very important to a home's economic stability. She is 28 years old, married, and works hard to offer a better life for her 5-year-old son. Pascuala was able to attend six years of school which today helps her keep track of her business affairs. She generates income for her family buying/selling traditional clothes. Pascuala is well known inside and outside her community. She takes advantage of her network by selling in different locales. In order for Pascuala to expand her business, she is requesting a 2nd Kiva loan to buy traditional clothing and shoes.

Six other Maya K'iche' women, along with Pascuala, live in a rural area of Boca Costa in the Department of Sololá. They appreciate their culture and proudly wear their colorful traditional outfits. The women participate in monthly trainings provided by a facilitator who shares valuable information in four main topics: business, family, women's issues, and health. The women use the information from the business sessions to grow their businesses in selling traditional clothing, shoes, and mashan sheets for wrapping food. Other topics they find important are health care and developing leadership skills. Because the women only have a primary education, the trainings are important for their intellectual development!

Thank you, KIVA investors for financing these loans!
