Aminah's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more green bananas, rice, maize flour and cooking oil for her restaurant.

Aminah's story

Aminah is 22 years old and lives in the town of Gaba in the Makindye region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Aminah has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food like green bananas, rice, beef and potatoes.

To help expand her business, Aminah has requested a loan of 1,800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more green bananas, rice, maize, flour and cooking oil, and will help Aminah to generate greater profits. Aminah will use the profits of the business to buy for herself personal items like clothes and shoes, pay house bills and provide basic needs for her family like food, thereby improving their standards of living.

Aminah hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a beauty salon in order to generate more income.

Aminah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
