A loan helped to buy an industrial stove and a refrigerator.

Nuevo Amanecer De Xepec Group's story

Luciana is 38, and she is the mother of 2 children, aged 12 and 17. She is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Nuevo Amanecer Xepec". She is a dynamic leader.

Luciana lives in the department/state of Sololá, and she has two food businesses. She makes and sells regional snacks at home, and she also has a small restaurant right in the center of her city.

Luciana is requesting a loan from Kiva to buy two essential appliances: an industrial stove and a refrigerator.

Luciana is one of 7 Maya K’iche women in the Trust Bank, who proudly wear their traditional colorful clothing. They have learned to plan, budget and invest thanks to monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge. The funds help them with their food, traditional textiles, animal husbandry and ice cream businesses. Other topics covered during their monthly meetings are health, hygiene, nutrition, prioritizing expenses and self esteem.
Luciana shares: “One of the topics that I remember the most is the importance of opening new businesses to meet the wishes and needs of our customers. This has helped me to think of new items to put on my menu.”
Every other month, the women have access to basic health care services.
The combination of loans, education and health care services is what Friendship Bridge calls “Microcredit Plus”.

These ladies are very grateful to be stepping into a brighter future because of the effective partnership between Kiva and Friendship Bridge, as well as their hard work. Thank you!
