Anida's story

This is Anida! Anida is part of the Emberá-Wounaan indigenous community called Arimae. She is a role model in her community. She is a teacher of traditional Embera artcraft-making and supports her family by selling beautiful hand-made art crafts. Anida is very attached to her traditions, and she continues the work of her ancestors by maintaining their culture. Anida is the former president of the community bank in her community. The community bank provides financial inclusion to the community members of this town located in the Darien forest. Anida has previously taken a loan of $1,500 USD with Kiva that has already been paid fully. With this second loan, Anida is aiming to buy new materials for art crafts and expand her business, as the demand for her products continues to increase and also buy materials to fix the roof of her house. Anida is a community leader in a group of Embera-Wounaan artisans making different types of traditional handicrafts such as bracelets and necklaces made of beads as well as traditional skirts called Parumas. Anida has received training in entrepreneurship and financial education thanks to business volunteers from Global Brigades who have boosted her entrepreneurial spirit. Anida is always on the lookout to improve so that her kids can inherit her entrepreneurial spirit. Please join Anida in her mission to preserve the Embera ancestral culture through art.
