Twalla's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped grow my small business by providing funding for renovations and supplies needed to maintain my new location for it's first year.

Twalla's story

My desire to become a entrepreneur started after getting out of an abusive relationship in 2011. Being homeless and a signal mother of 5, I had to come up with a plan to support my family. I invested in a candle making for profit. I established a customer base but I began to have depression issues and I couldn't keep up. After getting well, I decided to invest in retail clothing. I had fashion parties that were successful. At my fashion parties I invited other businesses to sell their products. I then began to rent venues and host craft and vendor events so that crofters and other small businesses could sell their products. I have been able to establish a customer base for myself of vendors. This year I was given the opportunity to lease a building so that I would be able to start a frequently open business market. The market gives other small businesses a consistent venue to sell their merchandise or promote their services for a responsible fee. With a KIVA loan I will be able to further invest in advertising, marketing, a security system, building renovations, supplies and all other needs to keep the market viable. I have 25 booths available and two private suite rentals for small businesses that need to lease for 6 months or more. In the parking lot there is space for food trucks/vendors. With so many small businesses in need of a reasonable need for space my business will continue to grow. After paying the loan off I look forward to becoming a lender myself.
