Kaliro, Eastern Region, Uganda / Clothing

Halima's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase tops, trousers and skirts to sell.

Halima's story

Halima is 22 years old and lives in the town of Kaliro in the Iganga region of Uganda. She has two children who are all currently in school. For the past four years, Halima has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes.

To help expand her business, Halima has requested a loan of 700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase tops, trousers and skirts to sell, and will help Halima to generate greater profits and manage to pay some of the house bills and basic needs for the family. Halima hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot pf land and build a house for her children.

Halima is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
