Beatrice's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farm inputs and improve her production, as a mother of three who is very proactive in her approach to farming decisions.

Beatrice's story

Beatrice is a mother who always wears a golden smile. She is a smallholder farmer from Kerugoya, a remote area located on a gentle plain before the ascent into the central highlands of Kenya. She has three children and has always remained very proactive in her approach to her farm decisions. She takes all the responsibilities of her farm to heart and works towards her goals. She is determined to succeed and give her family a better lifestyle.

Beatrice earns an income selling milk, maize, and vegetables. She has been in this business for the past nine years. Being an agricultural producer, she is very committed to fulfilling her dream of purchasing her own home. The quality of Beatrice’s crops has dwindled due to the use of poor farm inputs. This has resulted in low demand for her crops and negatively impacted her sales. As such, Beatrice is requesting a loan to purchase farming inputs, such as fertilizer and hybrid seeds, to boost the quality of her produce.

Since Juhudi Kilimo, Kiva's field partner, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability. Beatrice is assured of an increased harvest, which will open new markets for her crops and, subsequently, increase her profits. This will improve her standard of living, as well as that of her beautiful children.
