A loan helped to buy yarn for her textiles, as well as chickens and pigs.

Flor De Tuluche Group's story

Thirty-six year old Juana is a member of the “Flor de Tuluche” Friendship Bridge Trust Bank located in a rural area of the Department of Quiché. She lives in an adobe house, covered with a reed roof, and has a patio where her six children over 8 years old play. Juana and her husband are happy they can send their children to elementary school. She is Maya K'iche' with no formal education and shares, "Despite having no education myself, I can teach my children about the importance of studying for better development opportunities."

In order to provide funds for their education, Juana has two businesses. She raises animals and weaves traditional embroidered “huipiles”/blouses for a very demanding clientele. To fulfill her orders, Juana is requesting a loan to buy yarn, as well as chickens and pigs.

Monthly, Juana and her eight friends, who have businesses selling traditional textiles, as well as livestock and poultry, meet to participate in the Friendship Bridge "Microcredit Plus" program of small loans, education, and health care services. Along with 30,000 other low income women, they learn business management skills, good health and hygiene practices, as well as learn about family care and planning. As their knowledge increases, they have more successful businesses and provide better futures for their children.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for helping to finance their much needed loans!
