Jackie Florence's story

Jackie Florence is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kititale in the Makindye region of Uganda. She has one child who is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Jackie Florence has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult and kids clothes.

To help expand her business, Jackie Florence has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase tops, trousers and skirts for sale, and will help Jackie Florence to generate greater profits and manage to pay some of the house bills and basic needs for the family.

Jackie Florence hopes that in the future she will be able to open up another boutique business that sells all adult and kids clothes in town.

Jackie Florence is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
