Harriet's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase braids for plaiting, weaves, hair lotions, treatment and a hair dryer.

Harriet's story

Harriet is 23 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 3 years, Harriet has been working hard to manage her Beauty Salon, which does hair dressing.

To help expand her business, Harriet has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase braids for plaiting, weaves, hair lotions, treatment and a hair dryer to attract more customers. This will help Harriet to generate greater profits so she can buy new clothes for her self and her children. Harriet hopes that in the future she will be able to build apartments for business.

Harriet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
