A loan helped To provide clean water and affordable nutritious milk to under-served Haitian communities.
This loan may have a higher risk but higher impact. Learn more here. Problem: Over 70% of Haitian lack access to safe water. Cholera is prevalent and water-borne diseases are a major cause of death in the country. The charity projects that give away water are not successful at keeping the water flowing after a few months. Solution: dloHaiti addresses this need for clean water by setting up solar-powered water treatment facilities in underserved communities. Haitians living in the community run these facilities to produce and distribute safe drinking water for their neighbors. dloHaiti works with local micro-businesses – corner mom-and-pop shops and local entrepreneurs that resell water – to make sure that everyone has easy and affordable access to safe water. The model works. dloHaiti has kept it’s price of water the lowest on the market since the company’s launch in 2012 and today serves over 150,000 Haitians through 500+ retail partners throughout the country, offering quality water at ¼ of the price of the competition. Loan use: This Kiva loan will help dloHaiti achieve two important goals. They will be able to reach more people who need safe water, and give Haitian entrepreneurs the opportunity to start or expand their small businesses while serving their community.
