Metrine's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farming inputs, such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm's yield and make more in profits to support her family.

Metrine's story

Metrine (a 43-year-old mom of eight) is a smallholder farmer who is a fighter. She is responsible, attentive and loving, and she is an exemplary mother. Since her children were born, she has raised and cared for them.

Metrine never had the opportunity to advance in her education, but this did not kill her dream of wanting to succeed in life. She started farming 10 years ago. Throughout those years, she has gathered much experience, and all good farming techniques are at her fingertips.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the foundation upon which agricultural revolution is built. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seed allocation by the government is far below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into assisting smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in inputs availability than before.

Metrine is requesting a loan to buy farming inputs, such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm's yield and make more in profits to support her family. This intervention will help her meet the increasing demand for crops in the market, and in the process, generate more income to repay her loan debt and improve her family's quality of life. Metrine also hopes to improve the condition of her house.
