Rebecca's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more braids, weaves and hair oil for her beauty salon.

Rebecca's story

Rebecca is 24 years old and lives in the town of Kyengera in the Kyengera region of Uganda. She is married and has two children, with one currently in school. For the past nine years, Rebecca has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which offers services like plaiting of braids, weaves and hair retouching.

To help expand her business, Rebecca has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more braids, weaves and hair oil, which will help Rebecca to generate greater profits.

Rebecca will use the profits of the business to assist her husband in paying school fees for their children, buying herself and the children personal items like clothes, paying house bills and providing basic needs for the family like food, thereby improving their standards of living.

Rebecca hopes that in the future, she will be able to open up a bridal shop in order to generate more income.

Rebecca is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
