A loan helped to buy a dairy cow in order to increase sales of organic milk.

Surmakan's story

Surmakan, age 43, is married, and is the mother heroine of six children [an honorary title bestowed upon mothers of large families in the Soviet Union]. Surmakan has a specialized secondary education. She is engaged in animal husbandry as the primary source of income for her family. Neighbors says she is a cheerful, honest, and hardworking woman. Thanks to Surmakan's hard work and her husband's help with the farm, her farm currently has 20 cows and five horses. Surmakan has a contract to deliver organic milk to a local plant for further processing into dairy products. This allows Surmakan to invest continually in her agricultural business.

When Surmakan found out that she could take out a loan from Bai Tushum Bank on security of her contract for a future delivery (as part of the "Value chain" product), she applied for a loan of 150,000 som (KGS) to buy dairy cows and increase the volume of organic milk she sells. Payments for the milk from the plant will be transferred directly to Surmakan's bank account, and loan payments will be debited automatically. Profits from the loan will help Surmakan in the future to increase the number of livestock she owns, improve her family's material well-being, and give her children a quality education.
