Negociantes Chixocol Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to expand her animal corrals, as well as buy chickens and pigs.

Negociantes Chixocol Group's story

Nineteen-year-old Lesbia is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Negociantes Chixocol" located in the Department of Quiché in the highlands of Guatemala. Lesbia is one of 8 Maya K'iche’ who make up the group. They are beginning their 2nd loan cycle with Kiva.

Lesbia is single and lives with her parents. The family wants to expand their business making clay pots and raising animals. Right now the profits from the businesses help Lesbia attend high school and save for college.

She is requesting a loan to expand her animal corrals, as well as to buy chickens and pigs. This is Lesbia's 1st time participating in the Trust Bank and sees it as a very important resource for her business's success.

The members of "Negociantes Chixocol," along with 30,000 other Guatemalan women, participate in monthly training sessions that are a part of the "Microcredit Plus" program of loans + education + health that helps them create their own pathways out of poverty. At each meeting they make a loan payment and then learn about one of 4 topic areas: business, women, family and health. Most of the women have little or no formal education, so the educational sessions provide them with relevant skills. Lesbia reports that it is very important to have these trainings and shares,"this information will help me get new knowledge that I do not get at school."

Lesbia and her friends are very grateful to each of you Kiva investors for providing them with much needed financing. Thanks!
