Sabati Group's story

All ten women from the Sabati group are married. On average they are 32 years of age with two children, and all live in traditional households in the Dioni neighborhood of Konobougou, in the Baouréli prefecture of the 4th administrative region of Mali. These women got to know each other through family ties and are retailers of various goods, such as food condiments (Maggi vegetable oil), cereals, soap, tubers, fish, etc. Having fully repaid their four previous loans, the women from the Sabati group are now requesting a fifth group loan. They intend to use it to buy two tons of cereal (beans, millet, corn), and packages of various food condiments (spices and a barrel of vegetable oil). They mainly get their supplies from local producers. They then sell their products in Dioni and at the Konobougou market, in general for cash, to a customer base of both women and men. They hope to achieve average monthly earnings of 20,000 FCFA each, which will be used to bolster their working capital and contribute to family expenses regarding food, children’s education and healthcare.
