Scovia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy clothing materials and an electric sewing machine.

Scovia's story

Scovia is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu, in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has two children, one of whom is currently in school. For the past three years, Scovia has been working hard to manage her tailoring business, which sews and mends clothes.

To help expand her business, Scovia has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy clothing materials and an electric sewing machine. This will help Scovia to generate greater profits and her business will expand, hence generating more profits. She will be able to support her family and children, thereby improving their standards of living.

Scovia hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build rentals.

Scovia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
