Lilian's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy certified seeds and hybrid fertilizers to improve her crop farming that will elevate her standard of living, as well as educate her children through the profits generated.

Lilian's story

Get to know Lilian (a 38-year-old mom). Lilian’s success comes as a result of her hard work and determination. Today, she points out some of the successes she has made through farming, like sending her 2 children to school.

Lilian is married and lives with her husband in a remote village in the Eldoret area of Kenya. She is committed and devoted to working in the field of farming. She practices crop and dairy farming.

Though she dearly loves crop farming, her farm is at risk of attack by crop pests and diseases. Treating crop diseases requires a substantial increase in operating costs. In most cases involving poor rural farmers, the amount of capital invested to produce a desired yield is greater than the value of the harvest. The remedy to this problem is to use certified seeds that are resistant to pests and diseases.

Lilian is seeking a loan of 100,000 KES which she will use to buy certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to expand her crop farming. By scaling up the business, she will reduce production costs and increase output.

Her strategy is to use the returns from the investment to pay for more farm inputs in the future, the lack of which is a major problem that leads to the closing down of many farms due to poor quantity and quality of yields. Through the loan, Lilian will attain food security for her household and also improve her living conditions.
