Rosalia's story

Rosalia, 66 years of age, has a business selling food, grilled meat, soups, pastry, and fast food. She works every day, in her own home. Rosalía started several years ago when she retired completely from her job and decided to generate income independently. Her principal clients are people in the area who know her and her work. Therefore, when it came to pass that Rosalia was affected by competition, because there were various businesses selling lunches, she relied upon her clientele. She decided to focus on fast food in the afternoons, and meanwhile, on the weekends, she makes the special soups based on tripe and the fine pastries.

Her greatest challenge is to reach sustainable growth in her business. Her goals are to invest in a greater volume to reduce her costs, and to compete effectively in the market which immigrants to Colombia from countries in conflict have entered; they have great strength in cuisine and set prices without considering costs, which proves to be uncompetitive.

She comes to Kiva for a loan to buy chicken, rice, oil, and disposables, to improve her income and maintain the well-being of her family, thus making her Kiva loan into a successful investment.
