Katrina's story

My family is from the East coast, my mom from rural North Carolina and dad from Norfolk, Virginia. Needless to say, seafood was a weekly part of our diet, even after we relocated to Detroit, Michigan. Every Saturday, we had fried fish, and hot tea. Tea is a part of the most relaxed memories of my childhood. In school, I used my inquisitive nature to pursue scientific careers: forensic science, medical research and bio-engineering. But I always felt something was missing. I also loved creativity, visual arts, music, movement and food. I continued to pursue science, hoping to land on something that was ME. Meanwhile, my husband and I had a growing family. As a parent, tea continued to grace the menu of after school snacks, special occasions, sick days and lazy summer barbecues. Tea was still showing up in my favorite memories. That's when it hit me; tea was science, wrapped in creativity, Tea is social and pragmatic. Tea encapsulates all of the senses... and all of me. Owning a tea company celebrates the fullness of who I am. I am finally home.
