Mariluz's story

I was an orphan born in Saldana, Colombia located in South America. I was adopted into a nuclear family at the tender age of five. The “Leave It to Beaver” family soon faded, and my parents divorced a mere 3 years later. I was blessed to land in the loving arms of my mother. As a child I showed my entrepreneurial spirit by selling my homemade wares to my neighbors. I was also a blossoming fashionista, and as I grew, so did my love for fashion. I soon learned all the best places to shop second hand. I would grow up to be an expert resale shopper. As a teenager I welcomed a beautiful little girl into this world. I was fortunate to have the loving support from my mother. She guided me through the “single-mother” world. I continued to shop second hand, and thoroughly enjoyed dressing my little one in the beautiful castaways of others. In my early twenties, I obtained a position with Goodwill Industries, in what would be known as their flagship resale boutique. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge, but what I also learned was the need for a different kind of store. One that combined the affordability of Goodwill with a warm and uplifting establishment that focuses on women. This was the moment Orange Thread Collection was born. Orange Thread Collection has only evolved since then. I continually listen to the needs of my guests and consistently build my brand. I have surrounded myself with positive role models and a support system. These have shown to be of the utmost importance for my success. I believe that Orange Thread Collection could someday be brought into other communities through franchising. This is a goal I hope to one day obtain.
