Mujeres Unidas De Sumpango Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy meat and produce for her store and thread for her textile business.

Mujeres Unidas De Sumpango Group's story

Women’s roles are vital to well-functioning households throughout the world. It is essential to manage income, budget for expenses, and take care of the household.

This is what Celia, the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Unidas de Sumpango”, does on a daily basis. Celia is a wife, mother of two children aged 7 and 11, and an entrepreneur. She is 27 years old and has nine years of formal education.

Her biggest goal is to continue to study and graduate with a professional nursing diploma. She also wants her children to continue with their schooling. They are currently in the 1st and 5th grades.

Celia has a store where she sells dairy products and meat. In her free time, she embroiders colorful traditional blouses called “huipiles”. It is now time for her to invest in her businesses. She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy potatoes, sausages, and ham for the store, as well as a variety of threads for her textile business.

Each month, the 7 ladies in the group, who live in the department/state of Sacatepequez, meet to make loan payments and to participate in educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. Every other month, the women have access to basic healthcare services. Since they have little or no formal education, they become more informed and empowered as they learn about an aspect of 4 topics: health, family, women, business.

Thank you, Kivainvestors, for your generosity with these women!
