Mujeres Productivas Group's story

Maribel is 39 years old and a single mother. She has four children and strives onward to provide them a better future. Of her four children three are in high school, and she is saving so that her oldest daughter can continue in school.

For ten years Maribel has worked selling juanes [a traditional dish from the Peruvian jungle, generally made of a rice and meat stew cooked in banana leaves], orange juice, bananas and hens. Her primary goal is to continue saving and working to improve her quality of life and to invest in her children's education, as she currently lacks money for that. Through Kiva she seeks to buy products that will help her grow in her business and provide better products.

Maribel considers herself to be a hardworking, enterprising and responsible woman, with a great desire to continue working for her children and within her cooperative. The cooperative supports her, and she is the leader of the Mujeres Productivas [Productive Women] group, made up of eight members.
