A loan helped to buy more pandanus for her weaving business.

Fifita's story

Greetings from Tonga. Meet Fifita: a 34-year-old mother of three children, who are all currently attending school. She is married to her husband, who works as a taxi driver. She is running a business of weaving and making tapa (a patterned cloth made from mulberry bark). She is a a very hard-working and successful woman in her business.

She applied for a loan from SPBD as her seventh loan cycle and used it to buy more pandanus for her weaving.

Her business is the primary source of income for her family and she is doing it very successfully. She joined a group of women in the village, who are working together. When she finishes making her tapa and mats, she sells them at markets to the local people in order to earn her income, which helps her family's living conditions and also helps to make her loan repayments weekly. Fifita works hard in her business six days a week, every day except Sunday, from morning until evening.

She has a vision for the future of her business and she plans to generate more income to complete their new house, which was built to accommodate her family and to provide warmth and safety.
