A loan helped Marta to buy corn for her tortilla shop and chickens that she can butcher.

La Fe Group's story

Marta, a single mother of a 10-year-old daughter, lives in the picturesque department/state of Solola. It is a beautiful area, well known for the magnificent Lake Atitlan and the 3 majestic volcanoes that stand guard over the Lake. Marta is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Fe” or “The Faith”. She has 2 businesses selling chickens by the pound and making fresh delicious corn tortillas 3 times daily. She has set high goals of attracting more customers and generating more income. So, Marta is requesting her 1st KIVA loan to buy corn, as well as chickens that she can butcher and cut up.

Marta is one of 7 Maya Kaqchikel ladies in the Trust Bank. She looks forward to her monthly meetings because she gets welcomed support from her friends, makes loan payments and participates in relevant educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. She learns about an aspect of 4 topics: health, family, women, business. Every other month, she has access to basic healthcare services.

Non governmental organizations like Friendship Bridge help fill the gaps in Guatemala since there are few if any governmental programs for women like Marta. KIVA investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, play an important role. Thank you to each of you for your generosity and your kindness!
