but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy food, pans, plates and a fridge for her restaurant business.

Bridget's story

Bridget is 17 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. For the past two years, she has been working hard to manage her restaurant where she sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Bridget has requested a loan of UGX 2,000,000 from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more food like maize flour, green bananas, beans and restaurant supplies like sauce pans, plates and a fridge. This will help Bridget generate greater profits that she will use to improve her family’s standard of living, such as providing them with enough food and being able to pay school fees for her siblings.

Bridget hopes that in the future she will be able to become a famous businesswoman in the her town.

Bridget is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
