A loan helped to buy more tomatoes to sell.

Phionah's story

Phionah is 19 years old and lives in the town of Rubirizi in the Kabwohe region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Phionah has been working hard to manage her food stall, which sells tomatoes.

To help expand her business, Phionah has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more tomatoes to sell and will help Phionah to generate greater profits as the business will expand.

This will enable Phionah to cater for more of her family's needs and improve their standard of living.

Phionah hopes that, in the future, she will be able to buy land and build a house.

Phionah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
