A loan helped to buy a biodigester to cook with biogas and help the environment.

Gabriel Zeferino's story

Gabriel Zeferino wants to safeguard the environment. Deforestation has become a menace in Cuautepec de Hinojosa where he and his family lives, something that has distressed him.

He believes that the situation has resulted to very unpredictable weather patterns, which is affecting farmers in his community. The reducing land sizes is pushing farmers to clear more land for agricultural purposes and the situation is even further accelerated by the lack of affordable and sustainable energy sources.

Gabriel Zeferino wants to install a Sistema biodigester in order to stop relying on wood fuel and, as a result, safeguard forests. With his 20 cubic meter system, he will transform manure from 16 sheep and six rabbits into a renewable and beautiful flame to cook. The biodigester will also produce organic fertilizer to increase corn, vegetable, and flower production in a sustainable way.

This loan represents 62% of the price of the biodigester; the remaining part is paid directly by Gabriel Zeferino and a government subsidy.
