Mirinda Green Group's story

Shelter is a 34-year-old entrepreneur who earns a living through her poultry business, specializing in broilers. She resides in Beatrice with her two children and husband who is a self-employed builder.

Shelter keeps an average of 100 birds per month in a fowl run with a capacity of 250 birds. As the poultry business is her only source of income, Shelter takes it seriously by making sure that her broilers are properly fed and have adequate heat. She supplies her broilers to a local primary school and to individuals in her neighborhood.

In 2018, she joined Thrive Microfinance to access business loans with the hope of boosting her business and fully utilizing her fowl run capacity. She received her first loan, which she used to purchase 50 broilers and feed. This loan boosted her working capital and in turn resulted in increased profits. She then decided to apply for another loan to further grow her business. She used the loan to purchase 100 more broilers, feed and vaccines. She hopes to build a bigger fowl run which will accommodate 300 birds next year.
