Centro De Chiriquiac Cantel Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped buy a sewing machine and high quality thread to use in making traditional blouses.

Centro De Chiriquiac Cantel Group's story

Florinda is a 49-year-old mother of 10 children and a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank Centro de Chiriquiac Cantel located in a rural area in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. She was recently widowed and left with an enormous responsibility to care for her family. Florinda embroiders and sews traditional blouses. One of her daughters helps out with her work.

Right now, Florinda is requesting a Kiva loan to buy a sewing machine and a variety of high quality thread. She is setting aside some of her income for the continuing education of her children. The younger ones are in elementary and secondary schools, while the older ones only reached the 6th grade. Florinda is determined to see each of them succeed!

She joins eight other Maya K’iche ladies who have traditional textile businesses each month to make loan payments and participate in educational training (business, health, family, women). Every other month, they have access to basic health care services including family planning. Their goals are to work hard, to raise the standard of living for their families, educate their children, empower themselves, and successfully manage their businesses. Part of their success comes from the effective partnership between Kiva and Friendship Bridge. Thank you, Kiva investors, for your kindness in funding these well-used loans! These women are opening doors to a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families, and their community in Quetzaltenango!
