About 40% of the population in Pakistan lack access to the electricity grid. Around USD 2 billion is spent by them on poor quality alternatives such as kerosene, paraffin and firewood. EcoEnergy distributes electricity services into off-grid areas in Pakistan to people have no access to electricity or are severely under-electrified. The EcoEnergy team believes that access to modern electricity can help people break the cycle of poverty and lead better, more prosperous lives. They hope to reach millions with clean, affordable energy and enable rural villagers to earn more incomes for their families and contribute to the local and national economy. Business model: EcoEnergy offers solar home systems on either a cash basis or financed through Pay-As-You-Go model, which enable customers to own the system by paying it off over a period of 12 to 24 months. Solar Products: EcoEnergy currently sells several types of solar home systems, from a 4 watts to a 500 watts, that can power lights, fans, phones, TVs, water pumps and refrigerators. To date, they have sold 14,000 solar lanterns and have 65,000 customers being serviced by their solar home systems. EcoEnergy also creates strategic partnerships with lending institutions to help low-income communities have access to their systems through financing.
