A loan helped to buy more clothes to sell.

Shakirah's story

Shakirah is 18 years old and lives in the town of Zanna in the Abaita Ababiri region of Uganda. For the past two years, Shakirah has been working hard to manage her clothing sales.

To help expand her business, Shakirah has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes to sell. This will help Shakirah to generate greater profits and Shakirah's business will expand. With more profits, she will be able to support her family, thereby, improving their standard of living. Shakirah hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a boutique.

Shakirah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life skills training.
