A loan helped to buy yellow bananas.

Bridget's story

Bridget is 19 years old and lives in the town of Rubirizi in the Kabwohe region of Uganda. For the past two years, she has been working hard to manage her retail business, where she sells yellow bananas, beans, and sweets.

To help expand her business, Bridget has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy yellow bananas, and will help Bridget to generate greater profits. She will be able to increase her profits and therefore she will be able to provide for her family, hence improving their standard of living. Bridget hopes that in the future she will be able to expand to a wholesale shop.

Bridget is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
