Fatu's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more palm oil to increase her business.

Fatu's story

Meet 33-year-old Fatu from Looking Town branch. She is married with four children between the ages of 9 and 19 years; all four of them are currently attending school.

Fatu runs a palm oil business. Palm oil is red in color and is the cornerstone of Sierra Leonean cuisine. It is used as the base for spicy stews. Good quality oil is said to be high in antioxidants. The oil is usually sold in yellow plastic cans. Borrowers like Fatu save money when they buy their oil in bulk. She has been in this business for the past 7 years now and works 10 hours per day and 6 days a week. Her other source of income is from her husband. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes.

Fatu requested this loan from BRAC to purchase more gallons of palm oil to increase her business. She says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve the standard of living of her family. In the next 5 years she wants to expand to a big store. She says thanks and appreciation to BRAC and Kiva community for their support.
