Nuevo Amanecer Pachaj Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a new floor loom and high-quality thread for her weaving business.

Nuevo Amanecer Pachaj Group's story

The climate varies greatly in the department/state of Quetzaltenango, and these variations in altitude are conducive to growing a variety of vegetables and fruits. This is also an area well known for the production of handicrafts. Some of the ladies in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Nuevo Amanecer Pachaj” are engaged in these activities.

One of them, Consuelo, the President of the Trust Bank, is a 49-year-old mother of 9 children (13-30). Along with her husband, oldest son, and 2 employees, Consuelo has a weaving business making traditional wraparound skirts called “cortes.” In a room in her home, she has installed 4 floor looms. Consuelo organizes the threads so that they are ready for the looms. Her business is increasing, and she is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy an additional loom and high-quality thread.

Some of the income will be set aside for the educational expenses of her children, 6 of whom have completed high school. The younger ones are in the 8th grade and high school. Consuelo has a 6th grade education.

At the monthly meetings, after calling the meeting to order, Consuelo and the Maya K’iche women in the Trust Bank make loan payments and then participate in educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and healthcare services. Topics are relevant to their lives and are based on an aspect of four areas: health, family, women, business.

These ladies send their gratitude to Kiva investors for funding their loans!
