Mujeres Unidas Patzun Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped Maxima who would like to purchase additional inventory for her traditional textile business.

Mujeres Unidas Patzun Group's story

The Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Unidas Patzun” is 31 year old Maxima who is married with a 6th grade education. She envisions a prosperous future for her 2 year old daughter and works hard at her traditional textile business to accomplish this goal. She sells at the market day in her community and now needs her 1st KIVA loan to buy more colorful textiles like blouses or “huipiles”, wrap around tube skirts or “cortes”, ornate aprons or “delantales” and belts or “fajas”. Maxima joined with 6 other Maya Kaqchikel women in the department/state of Chimaltenango to form the Trust Bank “Mujeres Unidas Patzun”. They have traditional textile workshops, carpentry businesses and sell prepared regional foods. With their income, the ladies help pay for household expenses and the education of their children. They participate in monthly educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. Basic healthcare services are offered every 2 weeks. At every monthly meeting, the ladies learn about an aspect of 4 topics: health, business, family, women. Since they have little or no formal education, these trainings are vital to their success and often they share the information with family and friends. Thank you, KIVA investors, for your kindness in funding these much appreciated loans!
