Los Pinos Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a stove and essential ingredients for her popular lunch business.

Los Pinos Group's story

Angela, a married, 30-year-old mother of 3 children (3,5,11), lives in the department/state of Chimaltenango and is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Los Pinos”. Her husband is a farm worker who twice each year does not have a job. This makes it challenging for the family and Angela realized it was essential for her to create income to support the family. For one year, she has prepared delicious lunches to sell and is happy because she has attracted many customers who think she is a wonderful cook!

Now, Angela wants to add tamales to the menu and is requesting her 3rd Kiva loan. She plans to buy a stove, as well as meat and spices for the tamale recipes. In her words, “With my earnings, I can provide for my children better and send the older ones to school.”

There are 6 other Maya Kaqchikel ladies in the group who proudly wear their colorful traditional clothing and hold fast to their cultural traditions. They meet monthly, make loan payments and then participate in educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. Angela was fortunate to attend school for 9 years but the rest of the women have little or no formal education. They appreciate acquiring business tools, and information about health, family and women at their monthly meetings.

Kiva investors are held in high esteem by Angela and her friends. Thank you to each of you!
