Mercy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farming inputs such as seeds to expand a single mom's horticultural farm, generate more profits and support her children as their only voice of hope.

Mercy's story

Hello, Kiva community!

Mercy is a single mom who is 30 years old and lives in the Litein area of Kenya. She has beautiful children whom she ensures to have a decent life. She is a horticultural farmer and also rears dairy cattle. She obtains her income by selling her horticultural and tea products in the local market. Mercy loves her family more than anything and this clearly explains why she has never abandoned her responsibilities even in times of great difficulty. Mercy has depended entirely on farming, not only for increasing profits but also for the opportunity it gives her to make her own decisions.

Mercy is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs such as seeds to expand her horticultural farm where she grows vegetables. In her remote village, loans are hard to get for female smallholder farmers with little and irregular income. Only a few organizations, such as Juhudi Kilimo, support farmers like Mercy.

Juhudi Kilimo facilitates loans that empower smallholder farmers like Mercy because the institution believes that women are good and hardworking farmers too. Be inspired this planting season and put a smile on the face of a Kenyan woman by kindly granting her a loan!
