Yiriwa Group's story
All four women from the Yiriwa group are married. On average they are 35 years old with 4 children, and live in traditional extended families in the Guegnéka neighborhood of Fana, in the Dioila prefecture of the second administrative region of the Republic of Mali. These women buy and resell grain, culinary condiments, fruit and vegetables, soap, clothing and beauty products. Having correctly reimbursed three previous loans, the women from the Yiriwa group are requesting a fourth group loan which will used to buy: packages of a variety of culinary condiments such as pepper, onions, Maggi cubes, tomato paste, kitchen salt, sounbala (spicy seasoning), but also children’s clothing and cartons of soap and beauty products. They get their supplies mainly from local wholesalers and resell their products at the market, for cash or credit, to a customer base of both men and women. Each member of the group foresees monthly profits to reach 20,000 FCFA on average. Profits will be used to deal with family expenses and reinvested in the business activities.
