Mariano's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a biodigester to cook with biogas and help the environment.

Mariano's story

Mariano is a farmer in Tezontepec de Aldama and has 8 cows. He lives with 3 family members, and the money earned from the farm is the main source of income to support his family.

Mariano is currently spending too much money on the propane required to power his home for cooking and hot water. His sixteen cubic meters Sistema Biobolsa biodigester will allow him to use the abundant cow manure on-site to produce biogas to replace propane. The biodigester will transform the "waste" into two important resources: methane-rich, renewable biogas and potent biofertilizer.

Not only will Mariano use the biogas to cook and heat bathwater for his family, but also Mariano will use the biofertilizer from the biodigester to increase yields on his crops. With this biofertilizer, he will no longer have to resort to expensive, petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers.

This loan represents 60% of the total cost of the biodigester; the remaining part is covered by a government subsidy.
